Interesting to note the plan refers to the lake as simply "Lake Jackson". The original canal design had a "T" shape to the end of the middle canal. According to long-time residents, the southern half of this "T" was never built since the engineers feared it might swamp some of the properties on that part of the canal.

We would like to appeal to the community at large, if anyone has pictures of the canal construction and would like to see them posted here please contact us. It is estimated that ground breaking began sometime after plan approval in 1958, as some of the oldest homes in the community were built in 1959. This was the era of the "traditional Florida home": concrete block construction, Terrazzo floors, aluminum framed awning style windows and knotted pine paneling with exposed roof timbers on a very shallow roof pitch. Thousands were built throughout Florida.

The three dead-end channels provide the only water access to Little Lake Jackson to more than 200 residences located on six streets: Sparta, Killarney, Kerry, Shamrock, Schlosser and Erin Street. Erin Park has both year-round and seasonal residents as well as more than 20 rental units. The canals connect to a single entrance to Little Lake Jackson.
